The Sakai Takayuki 33 Layer Damascus are known for high quality at a competitive price. The knives are made of hard VG10 steel over which 32 layers of damascus are folded. Then they are worked with a hammer (tsuchime) which makes food less sticky while cutting. They are re-sharpened by hand so that each knife comes out of the box sharp.
This model comes with a special handle. At first glance it appears to be made of wood but it is ABS plastic that they have lacquered in a special way. This gives the knife a luxurious look without the need for special care.
