Japanese santoku for a very competitive price.
Ideal for a novice (home) cook who wants a Japanese knife for a reasonable price.
The VG-1 ko-santoku is made in Echizen Japan by Masutani san. Masutani is 73 years old and has been making knives for 58 years. Together with his apprentices, he is constantly trying new techniques to make his knives even more affordable on the market. His goal; in every kitchen a good sharp knife that makes preparing food easier and more fun.
The hard VG-1 steel is protected by 2 layers of softer steel. This makes the knife more flexible and protects it from rust. As a final step, the knife has undergone molars processing, the resulting grooves on the blade ensure less sticking while cutting.
The rosewood handle has a western design and feels instantly familiar. The half tang is not visible at the bottom so you don't feel it when you grip the knife. Between the handle and the blade is a crop of stainless steel.
The Masutani knives excel in quality/price ratio. Although there are only 3 knives in the VG-1 series we find this series highly recommended.
