The Perfect Le Creuset Casserole: A Guide to Shape and Size
Have you been in love with Le Creuset's colorful pans for years and finally made the decision to buy (or give as a gift) one? Then you've probably already chosen the color, but what size should you have? Answering the following questions will make the choice a little easier:
- For how many people?
- What will you mainly make in it?
- Are you going to buy another one later?
- I already have a pan but don't know the size.
A useful way to determine what size pan you need is to see how many people you often cook for. Cooking in a skillet is ideal for making dishes that need to simmer and stew for a long time. This often results in larger portions that last several days (especially if you have a lot of guests). The good news is that Le Creuset pans are also designed with the number of servings in mind.
Advice: buy a slightly larger pan, because too much is better than too little. That way you avoid sitting around with hungry stomachs!
Le Creuset has provided the following size chart:
Round
Oval
Oval or Round: Which Casserole To Choose?
When choosing a casserole, it is important to consider what dishes you want to cook in it. Although round pans are by far the most popular, you may prefer game and poultry. In that case, an oval model is the best choice. Although these pans are slightly smaller in terms of capacity, their shape gives them more room for a whole chicken, for example.
Will you buy another one later (or do you already have one?).
It may seem early to think about this, but many of our customers don't limit themselves to one pan. They sometimes buy a larger or smaller one with it. If you already know this, it's better to make sure your first pan is a little smaller or larger than you originally planned. Then you'll have a bigger difference when you buy the second one, smaller or larger, later.
Say you planned to get a 26-cm pan for when you have guests, but you know there will probably be another one later, then it's better to go for a 28-cm pan and buy a 24-cm one later. That's a better combination than a 26 cm pan and a 24 cm one.
How big is your current pan?
Do you already have a frying pan and want to buy another one? Then you first need to see how big the pan you have now is. With Le Creuset and Staub, you can tell in 2 ways:
- On the bottom of the lid: Take the lid off the pan and turn it over. You will now see a number written in the lid. This is the size of the pan.
- On the bottom of the pan: Is it not under the lid? Then turn the whole pan over (take the lid off first).
Now you know what size you have and can more easily choose a larger or smaller model. Do you already have your own casserole dish? If so, what size do you prefer to use?
