This original Japanese-made konro grill is the best way to prepare yakitori and fish. It gives a refined taste and in the process is cozy to do together at the table.
The konro grill is made of diatomite (diatomaceous earth), a heat-insulating material that retains heat well without making the outside hot. With the sliders on the sides you can easily adjust the heat.
The grill gets very hot so meat caramelizes quickly, retains its moisture and remains tender. You use the grill with Bichotan charcoal, which gets very hot but burns slowly. So you can easily grill for a few hours.
Another big advantage of Bichotan is that it gives off hardly any smoke and no flames. When moisture from the meat drips onto the bichotan, there is no flame but a nice smoky smoke that gives the meat extra flavor. The Infrared heat keeps the grill at temperature for a long time.
The replaceable grill at the top is made of thin stainless steel. It does its job but needs to be replaced every so often. Be careful not to clean the grill with water, you only need to wipe away the ashes, otherwise the konro grill cleans itself when you turn it on.
