The Hatsukokoro Kurisagi knives are made of carbon steel and have a raw design. Yet they are more refined than you might expect. For example, the dark kurouchi (that's the raw forging skin) finish is polished smooth. The knives are commissioned by Hatsukokoro and forged by Motokyuuichi, a forge that has existed since 1895 and is now run by Yasuhide Maeda (fifth generation blacksmith).
The sleek handle provides a nice contrast to the raw blade. It has a traditional octagonal shape and is made of ebony wood.
